A FEW CHRISTIAN FAMILIES MOVED INTO PANTHECOST PANTHEON
I recall yet another interesting event narrated to me
about Kozhivally (Pandoth) family. In an impulsive moment of fury, Antony
Pandoth, Naithy’s father, severely beat up an Inspector of the Raja of Cochin
for harassing a tenant. He thought the Raja would be offended and apprehended
confiscation of his properties; and therefore he executed a sham sale deed in
respect of his properties in favour of St. Mary’s Church, Kumbalam. However, no
action was taken against him. This was at a time when the ‘Desavazhi’s became more and more powerful. Later, the Church failed
to return his property which made him and his successors very unhappy. He had
one son and two daughters. His only son, Jose, married a Jacobite lady
(Njaliath family) and left the Island to settle down at Trippunithura. His
elder daughter was married to Kinatukara (Valiara) family at Matavana and the
younger daughter Naithy was married to Varkey Kozhivally at Panangad, but they
settled down at Kumbalam. Naithy’s children, Xavier (Pappachan,) George, Mathew
and Dr. Antony manifested their protest by joining the Protestant Church.
