A nurse is a
specially trained occupation to take care of the sick. Nurses are capable to
give medical attention to a patient or to take care of children. Kindness,
care, concern and compassion are what patients expect from them. They should extend
the best possible care to the patients. While
my father was admitted to Lissie Hospital, I met Sr. Loretta
Mappilasseril (Champakulam), a dedicated and devoted nun belonging to the Order
of the Missionary of St. Joseph, who was the nursing superintendent of Lissie
Hospital at Ernakulum. She was like a guardian angel who would take into
confidence the patient as well as their relations and bystanders. She was
humble and simple; and had a superb communication skill. She would give you a
clear picture of the illness and about the cure. Her soothing words would lessen
half the patient’s tension and illness. One could see a sense of satisfaction
on the patients face.
